Developing a Legislative Proposal - (Video) Created by Chrissy Chow
Mental and Behavioral Health
Focuses on improving access to high-quality mental and behavioral health care across Virginia. Members identify policy priorities that strengthen the behavioral health system, promote accountability, and support recovery-oriented care.
Barrier Crimes Reform
Focuses on reforming Virginia's barrier crimes laws to reduce employment barriers for people in recovery and those with prior justice involvement. Members identify policy solutions and advocate for legislation that promotes second chances while protecting public safety
Housing and Wraparound Services
Focuses on expanding access to recovery housing and the supportive services that help individuals maintain long-term recovery, strengthening the continuum of care from early intervention through sustained recovery. Members work to strengthen policies, increase funding, and improve coordination across housing, peer support, treatment, and other recovery services that make up this continuum.
Peer Workforce and Recovery Infrastructure
Focuses on strengthening Virginia's peer recovery workforce and expanding recovery support services statewide. Members advocate for policies that increase workforce development, improve sustainability, and build a stronger recovery infrastructure.
Prevention and Harm Reduction
Focuses on policies that prevent substance use and expand access to evidence-based harm reduction services. Members advocate for education, prevention initiatives, and strategies that reduce overdose deaths and improve public health.
