2025 Mini Grant Program
The Substance Abuse and Addiction Recovery Alliance (SAARA), in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) Office of Recovery Services (ORS), is pleased to announce the launch of the Mini Grant Program to support organizations engaged in behavioral health and SUD advocacy, education, or support initiatives. The program aims to promote Recovery Month 2025 (September) while emphasizing the vital role of peer support in recovery and community wellness.
Accepting applications July 1, 2025 through July 20, 2025
Eligibility Criteria
1. Organizations must be a 501(c)3 based in Virginia and actively involved in behavioral health/SUD advocacy, education, or support activities.
2. Proposed initiatives must align with Recovery Month initiatives and programs, emphasizing the importance of peer support.
3. Applicants must demonstrate a clear plan for how the grant funds will be utilized to support peer-focused activities, events, or sponsorships.
Grant Utilization:
Grant funds may be utilized for a variety of purposes, including but not limited to:
- Sponsorship of peer support services, activities or events during Recovery Month.
- Development and dissemination of educational materials promoting peer support and recovery.
- Hosting workshops or training sessions focused on peer support best practices during Recovery Month.
- Implementation of peer-led support groups or peer mentorship programs.
Reporting Requirements:
Grant recipients will be required to submit a "Mini Grant Reporting Form", summarizing the outcomes and impact of their funded initiative by November 15, 2025. The form will be provided to the recipient as a Microsoft Form.
Application Process:
1. Interested organizations should submit a grant application detailing their proposed initiative, including objectives, target audience, timeline, and budget breakdown.
2. Applications should also include a brief explanation of how the proposed initiative aligns with Recovery Month campaign goals.
3. Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee comprised of representatives from SAARA and DBHDS-ORS.
4. Selected applicants will be notified and awarded grant funds to support their proposed initiatives.
Application Deadline:
The application deadline for the SAARA-DBHDS Mini Grant Program is July 20, 2025. Incomplete or late applications will not be eligible for funding.

-Notification of awards: August 1-10, 2025
-Reporting form due November 15, 2025
