Now Hiring a Full-time Communications Coordinator
Job Summary:
The Communications Coordinator supports the organization’s mission by promoting the Alive RVA Warmline and other recovery based initiatives including reducing stigma and increasing awareness of available recovery services and supports. This role manages the Alive RVA Warmline website, assists in updates on the SAARA of Va website, develops clear and engaging communications, and assists with community outreach efforts that connect individuals, families, and partners to recovery resources.

Key Responsibilities
Website Management
Maintain and regularly update the organization’s website with accurate information about programs, services, events, and resources.
Post announcements, recovery stories, and program updates.
Ensure website content is clear, accessible, and aligned with organizational messaging.
Monitor website engagement and recommend improvements to increase accessibility and user experience.
Communications & Content Development
Create content for newsletters, social media, and organizational communications.
Assist with writing announcements, press releases, and promotional materials.
Ensure consistent messaging that promotes recovery, hope, and community impact.
Support communication efforts for events, trainings, and recovery awareness initiatives.
Outreach & Community Engagement
Support outreach efforts that increase awareness of recovery support services.
Assist in building relationships with community partners, service providers, and stakeholders.
Help coordinate communication for community events, outreach initiatives, and recovery celebrations.
Promote programs and services that support individuals and families in recovery.
Tracking & Reporting
Monitor engagement across communication platforms including website and social media.
Provide basic reports to help evaluate communication and outreach efforts.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Certified Peer Recovery Specialist
Experience managing or updating websites (WordPress, Squarespace and similar platforms preferred).
Experience in graphic design.
Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
Experience with community outreach, public awareness, or nonprofit communications.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Passion for supporting recovery and reducing stigma related to substance use.
