Following 2018 decline, experts predict 2019 drug fatalities will reach record high


Data collected by the Virginia Department of Health, Virginia reached 1,536 fatal overdoses in 2017, being the states highest number recorded. For the first time in six years, the number of drug fatalities declined slightly in 2018 from the previous year by 3.3% with a total of 1,486 deaths. However, the states 2019 Fatal Drug Overdose Quarterly Report reveals a striking increase in overdose deaths during the 1st quarter. Experts are predicting a 4% increase in overdose fatalities from 2018 to 2019.
