FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

SAARA partners with  National Youth Organization to Launch New Project Supporting Young Adults in Recovery

Richmond, Virginia, 03/01/2021 – The Substance Abuse and Addiction Recovery Alliance of Virginia (SAARA) has partnered with the national organization Young People in Recovery, Inc (YPR) to launch Virginia’s first YPR chapter, which will be led by SAARA. This new chapter of YPR will diversify the scope of SAARA’s advocacy efforts and recovery resources and strengthen the services available to young people in Virginia.

YPR’s mission is to provide the training and networks all individuals, families, and communities need to recover and maximize their full potential. Chapters support people in or seeking recovery by empowering them to obtain stable employment, secure suitable housing, and continued education. Chapters also advocate on the local and state levels for better accessibility of these services.

“In Virginia Young Adults aged 18-25 tend to have higher substance use rates than most other age groups. with 11% reporting needing but not receiving treatment. Partnering with YPR will help us address the unique challenges to offering services to this age group.”

Together SAARA and YPR will focus on helping youth and young adults in communities throughout Virginia find support and alternative peer groups to avoid relapses and promote recovery. Through bi-weekly all-recovery meetings, monthly pro-social events, and quarterly life skills workshops focusing on housing, education, and employment, chapter participants will come together in a safe and supportive environment that celebrates recovery and where they can meet others who are also in recovery.
